A 19th Century Landmark located by the Banks of the Humber River

Heritage York held the 23rd Annual Fundraiser Dinner at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 266/046 at 3591 Dundas Street West (just west of Jane Street) on Saturday, February 28, 2017.

Approximately 100 people attended the special event as part of Canada's 150th celebrations.
Following a buffet style dinner prepared by the Women's Auxillary, Her Honour Elizabeth Dowdeswell, the current Lieutenant Governor of Ontario was introduced by old friend, and Heritage York member-at-large, Joy Cohnstaedt. Our guest speaker presented an overview of the history of her office, starting with Sir William P. Howland, the first full-term LG of Ontario and the only American-born Father of Confederation. She then referred to other LGs showing the changing roles of her office over the decades and the many facets of her position.  Following the talk, Mary Louise Ashbourne, vice-president of Heritage York, presented Her Honour with 2 books, one of which was the previously unpublished memoirs of Sir William. The project for the book was a joint venture between Heritage York and The York Pioneers.
